Uptime
Uptime monitoring over HTTP, TCP and Ping
Availability monitoring checks at regular intervals that a website, an API or a server responds. LOXUp runs these checks at high frequency over HTTP, TCP and ICMP Ping, and warns your team as soon as a service stops responding.

What is uptime?
Uptime, or availability rate, is the share of time during which a service is working. At 99.9%, a service can be unavailable for about 43 minutes per month. Detecting every outage quickly is the condition for reducing that time. Understanding the 99.9% availability rate.
How does LOXUp check your services?
HTTP
LOXUp sends a request to the URL of your website or API and checks that the response is correct. It is the test closest to your visitors' experience.
TCP
LOXUp opens a connection on a specific port (for example 443, 587 or 5432) to check that a service is listening: ideal for a database or a mail server.
ICMP Ping
LOXUp sends an ICMP packet and waits for the reply to check that a machine or a piece of network equipment is reachable.
What happens when a service goes down?
- An alert goes out by email, SMS (WinSMS Tunisia) and push notification.
- It is routed to all the authorised contacts on your team.
- The incident is archived permanently with its start time, end time and duration.
- The stability chart (5 min, 1 h, 24 h, several days) shows the evolution before and after.
Which test should you choose?
For a website, start with HTTP. Add TCP for critical non-web services, Ping for your machines, and SSL monitoring for any HTTPS domain. The detailed comparison is available in our HTTP, TCP, Ping guide.
Glossary
- Uptime (availability)
- The proportion of time during which a service is reachable and working. It is expressed as a percentage: 99.9% over a month represents about 43 minutes of unavailability.
- Downtime
- A period during which a service is unavailable or not responding correctly.
- HTTP
- The web protocol. An HTTP check sends a request to a URL and verifies that the server responds correctly.
- TCP
- A transport protocol. A TCP check tests that a given port on a server accepts connections.
- ICMP / Ping
- A network control protocol. Ping sends an ICMP packet and waits for a reply to verify that a machine is reachable.
- Response time
- The time, in milliseconds, between sending a check and the service's response.
